START Today's sophisticated and competitive job market demands workers who are computer literate. For women on social assistance, START is their key to penetrating and advancing in this market. This 10-week computer training program provides in-depth training in the most commonly used office software. A maximum of 10 participants per session contributes to an interactive, learning-enhanced environment and allows for individual attention from instructors. Learners work at their own pace to achieve key skills that will ease their re-entry into the workforce.

Job Search Workshop The Job Search Workshop is a three-day intensive workshop that provides newcomers with information on the Canadian labor market, trends in various sectors of the Canadian economy and insights on Canadian workplace culture. A major part of the workshop is hands-on practicing job search techniques like cold calling, networking and mock interviewing.
Talk English Café™ These English conversation sessions will help you build the fundamental communication skills you need to succeed in the Canadian workplace. Through activities led by a qualified ESL instructor as well as informal group discussion, you will develop skills in making small talk; building relationships with clients, co-workers and managers; working effectively in teams; and understanding the nuances of workplace culture. You will also have opportunities to practice and enhance your pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.

Engineering Connections This comprehensive six-week program provides internationally trained engineers with essential knowledge and skills to help them to connect with employers. Participants learn and practice effective job search strategies, develop an understanding of workplace communication and employer expectations, learn about the engineering labour market in the province and the country at large, and gain important insights on professional engineering standards and professional licensing in Ontario. They also enhance their professional skills through workshops on project management, software for engineers and Canadian engineering codes and standards delivered by the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

Financial Services Connections If you’re an internationally trained finance professional (ITFP) seeking work in Toronto’s thriving financial services sector, Financial Services Connections could just be your much-needed ticket. Through this specialized and comprehensive three-week program, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the nature of the financial sector in Canada, Ontario and Toronto. You’ll learn how to integrate into Canadian workplace culture, and how to effectively communicate with colleagues and clients within the financial services sector. You’ll also receive practical information and tips on how to enhance your job search, support to help you connect with employers and importantly, prepare you to write the Canadian Securities Course exams, a basic requirement for entry into a career in financial services sector.

Speed Mentoring™ Speed Mentoring events help newcomers build their professional networks, connect to professionals working in their fields to learn about opportunities, and understand the particular dynamics of their fields in Canada. In a typical Speed Mentoring, ten to twenty employees from a leading Canadian company meet one-on-one for ten minutes with each jobseeker. A bell is rung and the job seeker moves to the next employee. Each interaction provides an opportunity for jobseekers to find out what Canadian employers look for in a good employee, for getting constructive feedback on the ways of looking for a job, and experience communicating with professionals in the job seekers field of interest. This dynamic format provides an energized, targeted networking experience.

Language for Workplace Connections Language for Workplace Connections program will equip you with the language skills you need to find work in your field and be successful at your next job. In this six-week program you will learn workplace communication skills such as the art of making small talk; working on a team; understanding cultural differences; building relationships with colleagues/managers. This four-week program is designed to enhance and build on your current customer service skills. You will learn industry specific job search strategies, business communication skills and gain certification in: Tourism Essentials (TOE); Service Excellence; Smart Serve; Food Safety Training (NFSTP); and WHIMS.

Sales and Marketing Connections Due to the level of savvy and confidence required to develop markets, effectively close deals and build industry relationships, internationally trained sales and marketing professionals run the risk of their past education and experience being overlooked by North American employers. Sales & Marketing Connections specialized three week program will help bridge the gap and equip you with training that is current and relevant to Canadian practices. This unique program builds on your sales and marketing expertise and customer service skills through training in: Canadian context sales and marketing academic refresher, workplace communication, employment preparation and first hand exposure to employer practices and expectations through the guest speaker and speed mentoring sessions.
